You know that old saying, "you snooze, you lose?"Well I did. But it it was more like a mini catnap.I wanted to go to the First Ever Mn Blogger's Conference BAD.Like uber bad. Like give up my firstborn child bad...(OK, maybe not THAT bad. You get the point). The Magical Registration Day came...and went. Sold out in 2 hours.Whhaaaa??? *sob*Now that's a Committed Blog community. So later that week, as I was sulking in my soup, this Sign From Above came in my InBox.No, it wasn't The Big Guy Upstairs. Close though. It was Top Rank offering me a change to WIN a ticket to the Minnesota Bloggers Conference!! WIN, baby WIN!For a second, I felt like Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. OK. This is good. So. I'm on it.Step One: Write a blog post explaining the most important thing youve learned from blogging yourself.Well DUH that's easy! After decades of people telling me to be polite, be cautious, be politically correct, be nice, say the right thing, and Gawd forbid don't ever state your honest opinion in public...blogging has been like taking the muzzle off and just being ME!!! I am Raw. I am Real. And I like it that way. Warts and all, no excuses, no apologies. And an occasional poop story. boo-yah.Step Two: Why you should get to attend the MN Blogger Conference (instead of the other 100 people on the waiting list) Because I am a COMMITTED BLOGGER!! Yes. I AM. Why? Here's why:*I will gladly give up precious sleep and get up at 5 a.m because it's the only time all day I have the computer 100% to myself.* I forgo morning exercise, just to "get caught up on commenting."* I "clench" furiously....painfully......and put off going to the bathroom just so I can "finish this post". (sorry if TMI-"raw and real." 'Member?)*I sit down to blog, look up, and an hour has passed.*I'd rather subscribe to the endless awesome blogs on the web, than crack my local newspaper.*I call people I've never met "my friend" because they are a part of my Tribe. And it's perfectly normal....in the Blog World.*I routinely get annoyed at my day job (you know, the one that puts food on my table and keeps a roof over my head??) because it interrupts my Social Media efforts. *I ignore the blank looks people give me when I say "I'm a blogger" (it's like I said "I'm a booger"). I just smile and shrug it off because I KNOW what an amazing world the Blog World is. I know how much those people are missin out.*I give out my blog address and name with reckless abandon, but 90% of the time decline to give out my phone number.*Something crazy or funny happens in our house, and my family will look at me and say, "You're going to blog about this, aren't you?" Yup. I love blogging. I gush about it, I live it, I embrace it. Heck, I hope to even some day teach it. I am alllll over it.So pop over to Top Rank Blog peeps  know that I just gotta go to this conference. All the cool kids are doing it. ;)http://tprk.us/mnblogNo without further adu, I must get ready to go camping for the Labor Day weekend. I will be "unplugged" for almost 4 days.....and it will damn near kill me. Now THAT's committed.-franticmommySubscriber to the silliness that is Franticmommy! http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogspot/dpfZp

I'm trying to blog each meal we have to make is easier for me in a few months when I plan on typing up a list of all the meals we had, to make meal planning easier.
Yesterday we had meatloaf muffins, meatloaf made in muffin pans. They freeze really well so are great for lunches too! Also had a side salad and mashed cauliflower.(You can tell we like our comfort foods. hah)
Today Jason made dinner! Now, I wouldn't label it as healthy but....it sure was good and he stuck with all the food on our "approved" list. He made battered fish, hush puppies, and coleslaw. He used coconut flour to coat the fish, coconut oil to cook them, and added egg and coconut milk to the batter to make the hush puppies. It was REALLY awesome and even Rebecca, who hates fish, ate a ton!
I decided we needed to treat ourselves to some dessert, rare in our house, and made pumpkin pudding! It's so easy and the kids just love it! All you do is open a can of pure pumpkin, pour it in a bowl and add cinnamon, coconut milk, and your choice of sweetener. Not a lot of milk, just until it's smooth and creamy. Mix it all up and eat, unless you want it hot, then just heat it up. The kids call it pumpkin pie in a bowl. lol If it is hot outside you can throw it in a blender with some ice or frozen bananas for a very yummy pumpkin smoothie!
I'm thinking about seeing if I can make pumpkin jello soon.... should be interesting!
Let's see, oh for lunch yesterday the kids helped me make a chicken and vegetable stew. Tons of veggies from the garden, a bit of leftover chicken, and herbs and spices. Very good, in fact we ate it all before I thought to take a photo. hah!
The kids want pizza tomorrow so I'm going to try to make a crust and some cashew cheese. Yup, cheese from a cashew. I've had it before...not bad at all in fact.
But for now I've got to go clean up the mess Jason's fish fry left in my kitchen. lol

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sept. 2, 2010) ” Presentations in Bemidji State Universitys Department of Technological Studies will soon be a little bit brighter, thanks to a donation of projectors from St. Paul-based Skyline Exhibits.
Skyline Exhibits serves on the advisory board for the design technology program and has representatives on campus for the programs annual portfolio review event and for advisory board meetings.
Weve had many conversations with Skyline regarding our program and the industry, said Dr. Bonnie Higgins, associate professor of technological studies at Bemidji State. Skyline purchased a series of projectors to use with one of their new display systems. When a change in vendors prompted a separate purchase, they asked if our program might have an interest in five of the initial projectors.
These are great projectors, said Skyline President Bill Dierberger. We saw an opportunity to step in and support a quality educational program with high-end equipment they might otherwise not have been able to acquire.
The projectors, made by NEC, can project a 110-inch image in 1080i high definition from as close as 29 inches from the screen.
The NEC projectors allow for installation in small spaces while still delivering maximum impact in a classroom setting, said Scott Roschi, creative director at Skyline. These projectors will enable the design technology program to outfit more of its classrooms with the tools to encourage the creative sharing made possible by large-format presentations.
We have identified multiple applications for the projectors, Higgins said. We can use them in recruiting efforts, allowing us to show work of our current students to prospective students; we can use them during our annual portfolio reviews; and having these will allow our faculty to take high-quality projectors to conferences and presentations where they have to provide their own equipment.
Also, the fact that the projector only has to be 29 inches from the screen will allow us to make better use of space in one of our classrooms, Higgins said. We had to rearrange the room to accommodate a projector that had to be farther away from the screen.
The projectors are scheduled for delivery in the coming weeks.

Thanks to Chris Mitchell (from the Institute for Local Self Reliance) for the detailed update on Sibley Countys feasibility study. (Blandin Foundation is helping Sibley County with a grant to perform their feasibility study.)
According to Chris, there are public meetings happening throughout the area to discuss the potential project. Chris picked up on a couple of themes at the meetings. First “ the conflict between serving a whole community and serving the most potentially profitable areas of a community. In rural areas that often means deciding whether or not to serve farms and homes outside city limits¦
Winthrops City Administrator, Mark Erickson, is committed to serving the farms though. There is little doubt that the project could succeed financially by serving only the towns, which harbor some 80% of the population. But Erickson recognizes that the towns depend on the farmers and that everyone will benefit more from the network if it is universally available.
Chris also points out¦
A common theme across all these networks is that the cities really do not want to get involved but are compelled to take responsibility because they have no future without broadband. Economic development and quality of life are very much linked to broadband access
It sounds as if the feasibility study should be completed in early fall.

Why, buy a wardrobe of course! :-)
The local thrift stores and lots of the yard sales around here offer "Fill a bag for $1" and I LOVE them so much!
I can usually find clothes for the kids, sometimes really nice things but if not I'm still able to find lots of play clothes for them. I also see a lot of ladies buying the clothes to tear apart for quilts and other craft projects. I love when items that would otherwise be thrown away get re-used!
Here's what I was able to fit in one bag: jeans, tank top, casual shirt, flip flops, slacks, dressy shirt, dress, and heels. (If you wear jewelry you would have room to toss those in too, It's rare that I accessorize though. I like things simple. )3 outfits. $1. (Toddler not included.)Â
I will be removing those big white buttons from the dress though, yech.
So, if you ever see a place advertising $1 grab bags...run inside!!!! Â :-)

Oh yeah! I like this! Thanks to you, Sharon for these points. And to you too,
Barry.

I have a feasibility study i put together for an alternative energy project i
wanted to do for my cousin and my brother's houses out here in the woods. I
investigated the possibility of putting up a wind generator with a solar panel
backup. I have companies I can get these from, but wanted the feasibility study
done to present to the RBC to prove we could do the same for the rez. When I
presented it to Mike Bongo, he thought I wanted to use the type of wind
generators that are over a hundred feet in height with the turbine blades 50+
feet in length. Dumb ignorant....never mind.

I still want to do the study, but I need to write it up as a grant proposal. At
this point, I don't know who I could send it to and get the money for the
study. Once the study would be complete, I don't feel comfortable in giving it
to this group of council members. As an alternative, I want to work independ of
the RBC, but not being a LL band member, I don't see how I can do this. I found
some who I told about this who made suggestions about new style wind generators
and I have kept up on the new innovations for the solar panels. It will cost,
but if we formed a co-op in different regions of the rez as our own power
company maintaining the system, it will eventually pay for itself. We only
would need to pay for the maintenance of the system once it was installed.
That, in itself, could be upwards of 70% to 80% less in an electric bill some
pay now to Ottertail or Beltrami Electric or whatever other electric companies
deal on the rez. Once the systems are installed, whose to say we need to charge
members of the community anyways? Other revenues generated by the rez can be
used for the maintenance of the system.

Hopefully, this could prompt others here to come up with other ideas we can do
to generate revenue for the rez besides or possibly in place of the casinos.
I'm just floating this as we live in times different than our parents or
grandparents lived. We can maintain our traditions and culture, while still
having to live in this time. Take advantage of alternatives to mainstream
society, I guess, is what I'm saying. I'm just trying to think outside the box
here.

A couple of weeks ago, Carver County got the good word on their ARRA application. Heres a quick reminder on their project¦
Carver County “ This nearly $6 million award will allow the County of Carver to offer affordable middle-mile broadband service in south central Minnesota. The project plans to connect schools, libraries, and community colleges, including the Waconia Library and the South Metro campus of the Dunwoody College of Technology, to improve educational services, distance learning, and remote teaching. The project also proposes to construct 121 miles of new fiber that will be open to as many as nine last-mile providers in the region in order to improve commercial broadband availability and adoption. As many as 57,600 people stand to benefit as do 2,700 businesses.
The Sun Patriot recently provided more information on Carver County and their plans¦
The grant means we can leverage local funding to build a much needed fiber ring for county government and then use federal funds to add connections to the ring to benefit the greatest possible number of other public entities, [Carver County Board Chair James] Ische said. In addition, the redundant ring makes it possible for the private sector to offer last-mile broadband service to residents and businesses throughout the county. Even those in the rural areas will have access and be able to reap the benefits of high-speed broadband services.
The fiber ring will be nearly 89 miles long, run directly through every city in the county, and have an additional 32 miles in lateral connections. The 121 miles of new fiber will be open to as many as nine private last-mile providers in the region to improve commercial broadband availability and adoption. Instead of connecting nine sites as it was originally proposed, the fiber ring will initially connect to 55 sites that represent 86 anchor institutions.
Referred to as the Carver County Open Fiber Initiative (CCOFI), the anchor institutions represent a far-reaching collection of city, county and township governments, schools, fire departments, public safety towers, law enforcement agencies, community support organizations, and healthcare providers. All six school districts with buildings in Carver County will be connected to the ring through connections to a total of 28 public school buildings. The public will be able to access high-speed Internet at all six county libraries and at the Workforce Service Center.
Carver County will own the ring and will manage and support the fiber network deployed to the other public anchor institutions. The county will not support private sector businesses or residents who connect to the ring. That will be left up to the private companies. They will have equal opportunity to deploy last-mile infrastructure to the ring and provide network management to private businesses and residents.

I see how few posts I have made and wonder where did the summer go? But I also look forward to fall because that is when things will slow here and I can begin the drawings for painting this winter. I have so many in my head I am not sure where to begin! This is the first time I have not painted for an entire summer...painted for me I mean. I have done demos and step by steps for demos but nothing creative for me...I know I need to do that so I will return home the second week of October and I will draw until I have several ready to go and plunge in with gusto!!! My soul needs it for sure. I enjoy teaching but it leaves no time for me to paint for me...and that is not really so good I fear...but for now that is how it is and I am glad to have 2 weeks at home right now before Calgary...it will the the longest I have been home all summer...I need it to refuel as I am feeling very run down and tired...so anyway...I hope to begin posting more regular once life slows and I find my brains that I must have packed in a spare suitcase! ha!I have the heron I designed for the tshirts for the Gulf and was informed last week that it is still the top selling design. For those of you unfamiliar with this, artists from around the world did images that were placed on tshirts etc for sale and 100% of the profits go to cleaning birds in the Gulf. To date we have earned over $6000 for this project! If you want to see my work and the others you can go here... http://www.zazzle.com/artvsoilspill/gifts?cg=196107112234583855

The Library Boards annual BUCKS BUY BOOKS campaign is under way. The librarys budget has been cut at a time when libraries are being used more than ever. The average library user expects to receive the usual and more. Many more books have been kept in the hands of area readers, both young and old, thanks to the generous support of the BUCKS BUY BOOKS annual fundraiser. Thousands of adult and childrens books have been purchased since the BUCKS BUY BOOKS campaign began in 2004 due to budget cuts. Watch your monthly PUC billing for a letter from the Library Board with more information about this important fundraiser. Use the addressed envelope to send you donation or just drop it off at the front desk of the library. Checks can be made out to the Hibbing Public Library Book Fund.
