A young second year white pine cone

A young second year white pine cone
This is a close-up of the white pine cone. They emerged last year and were pollinated at that time. They held this small size all summer and are now ready to grow to their full 5 or 6 inch length. As far as I know they are the one northern pine that takes two years to bring the cone to maturity. From John Latimer. Check out The Phenology page at KAXE.org!
